Great Wall’s electric vehicle (EV) brand, Ora, teased that they have a big launch lined up at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show. And that teaser has made many do a double-take in surprise because the new EV bears a great resemblance to a classic Volkswagen Beetle!
From the side, the new EV’s shape strongly reminds one of the classic Beetle only with 4 doors instead of 2.
Ora’s marketing materials emphasised that the production car, not a concept car, is a time machine back to the retro era and targeted at women. Hence the rounded dimensions and the round wing mirrors paired with round taillights.
From what we can see in the teaser photos, the retro experience is even stronger on the interior. Check out that steering wheel that looks like it was plucked from a car produced in the '50s!
Ora has yet to name the new retro EV, the name will be decided via a vote on their social platforms. It looks like Ora wishes to continue with the theme of cats after the success of the adorable Ora Good Cat.
We wonder if Ora would take a leaf out of sister brand, Haval’s book and name their variants after cat breeds as well. It would definitely gain more attention from the girls if the variants are Rag Doll, Russian Blue, or Maine Coon!
There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
